Prizes

Prizes will be awarded to the most thoughtful essays submitted based on the criteria of The Hey, Little Ant Essay Challenge. Prizes will go to one entrant/essay in each of the four grades: Kindergarten, First Grade, Second Grade, Third Grade.

Prizes for Winning Essays:
• Personalized, signed hardcover copies of Hey, Little Ant in English and Spanish
• An educational insect toy from the Woodland Park Zoo
• School supplies from Salisbury University
• Copies of Hey, Little Ant in English and Spanish donated to the entrant's classroom teacher and library.
• The potential opportunity to have their essay and/or artwork included in the proposed publication of a compilation book of children's answers to the question posed in Hey, Little Ant, "What Do You Think That Kid Should Do?" (Author Phillip Hoose and the proposed book's publisher would approach each winner's parent or guardian for permission to publish.)
• Publication of the prize-winning essay on this website after May 21st, 2008 (with name and grade only displayed).

Prize for School Participation:
The original cover illustration of the book Hey, Little Ant has been donated by the book's illustrator, Debbie Tilley. That framed artwork will be given to the school which demonstrates exemplary participation in the Hey, Little Ant Essay Challenge. The winning school will be chosen based on the volume and quality of thoughtful submissions produced by that school's classrooms, and not just the volume of entries submitted or whether or not there are prize-winning entries from that school. This judgment will be made by the Executive Judges.

Prizes for Honorable Mentions:
Up to 40 entrants will be awarded with the following for thoughtful essays as "Honorable Mentions":
• A personalized, signed hardcover copy of, Hey, Little Ant
• The potential opportunity to have their essay and/or artwork included in the proposed publication of a compilation book of children's answers to the question posed in Hey, Little Ant, "What Do You Think That Kid Should Do?" (Author Phillip Hoose and the proposed book's publisher would approach each winner's parent or guardian for permission to publish.)
